This game sucked. There's really no other way to put it. Nola was shaky, the offense simply did not show up...
How? It's Game 6 of the National League Championship Series at Citizens Bank Park. How do you not show up?
I don't want to be the negative guy who sits here and spews bad vibes, but let's just take a second to dissect our offensive approach.
It feels like we're hit or miss. If the long ball isn't there, how do we score runs? There are not enough innings where we see a walk, followed by a stolen base, followed by a base hit or a double. There just aren't. I mean obviously, our record where we get out homered isn't going to be great, but it's the fact that we can't even compete in games where we're not homering 2 to 3 times.
Per Tim Kelly, Rob Thomson isn't changing the lineup for Game 7 tomorrow night. Do I agree with this move? Well, sort of. I agree not to suddenly change the lineup for a Game 7... but the lineup could have been changed in the past when we realized it had holes in it.
Schwarber struck out twice in a row against Brandon Pfaadt in Game 3, I'm sure they'll still be careful with him. They'll still be careful with Harp even though he didn't do much against Pfaadt either. Which means Trea and Alec Bohm REALLY need to step up in order for the top of the lineup to produce runs early tomorrow. Do I think Bohm should be in the cleanup spot? No. Do I think you move him out and bring someone else in who hasn't been batting 4 all postseason? Also no.
The opportunity to make that switch has vanished. The offense was beyond uncomfortable tonight, moving guys around and putting them in positions they haven't been in is a risk I'm not willing to take with 0 games left for guys to get used to it.
Put simply, they need to play better. All of them. Not just Bohm and Casty. All of them. If they want to win tomorrow night they all need to show a sense of urgency to produce.
I'm confident our guys show up tomorrow. Backs against the wall, they just punched you in your mouth at your own ballpark, how're you gonna respond?
